ANDERSON YOUNG BALLET THEATRE TO DEBUT ORIGINAL SPRING BALLET

Anderson Young Ballet Theatre has done it again! This March, the pre-professional ballet company will present the debut of 12 Dancing Princesses–an original ballet written, choreographed, and costumed by the Company leadership. Tickets are now on sale for the March 2nd and 3rd performances at Reardon Auditorium at Anderson University.

“We are especially proud to present the 12 Dancing Princesses Ballet,” said Jennifer Thiemet, AYBT Artistic Director. “Bringing this lovely fairy tale to life with our artistic team and talented company of dancers has been a labor of love and we’re excited to share the ballet with the community.”

The 12 Dancing Princesses ballet is based on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale. The ballet will immerse the audience in a journey of mystery, fantasy, and sisterly love within the walls of a mystical castle, where twelve princesses harbor a secret that captivates the hearts of young and old.

The artistic leadership at Anderson Young Ballet Theatre is responsible for the writing and choreographing of the ballet, as well as the creation of the set design and stunning costume design. This will be the nineth ballet performed under Thiemet and Cathy Sparks-Petraits, the Assistant Artistic Director, leadership and the third original ballet from the pair.

“We are exceptionally lucky to have the leadership of Jennifer and Cathy at AYBT,” said Cheryl Shank, AYBT Board of Directors President. “The artistry on display in the creation of 12 Dancing Princesses is a testament to the experience and talent at AYBT. This ballet is sure to delight audiences.”

12 Dancing Princess closes out AYBT’s 2023-2024 50th Anniversary season. Founded by Lou Ann Young in 1974, AYBT was created to offer people of all ages the opportunity to enjoy and experience the art of dance. With five decades dedicated to this mission, Young’s legacy continues under the third-generation leadership of Rhea Balmesada.

“It is a great honor to carry on my grandmother’s legacy and I’m proud to play a small role in brining the art of ballet to the community,” said Balmesada. “My family is beyond proud of the AYBT leadership and company and look forward to the presentation of this magical ballet during the 50th Anniversary season.”

Opening night of 12 Dancing Princesses is Saturday, March 2 followed by a Sunday matinee on March 3 at Anderson University’s Reardon Auditorium. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased at the Box Office or online via Eventbrite.
